Return to West Side Christian Church

Our Goal

For the past several years our church, and specifically our Jr. High ministry, has partnered with several schools and churches in Nairobi, Kenya.  Many of our families sponsor children from the slums.  They provide food, clothing and education to kids who would otherwise go without.

Two years ago our Jr. High students decided that they wanted to use their summer to leave a lasting impact on the world.  They set a goal of raising $6,000 to build two water for the schools we support in Africa.  We had an incredible summer with our Just Add Water campaign and in the end we raised over $9,000 and provided water for 3 different communities.

This summer we want to do something significant and we have chosen to dream big.  One of the schools we provided water to in 2007 is a boarding school for Jr. High age kids from the slums.  It is on the outskirts of town and they don’t have any electricity at their facility beyond a little generator for their water pump.  For $10,000 they can buy a generator and several solar panels.  This would allow them to greatly expand what they do for the kids.  Not only would they have much better facilities for cooking, they would have light for kids to continue their study groups into the evening.  They would have power for computers and other equipment that would give them a big advantage over the other students in their area.  They would even be able to have special events to reach out to the surrounding community where electricity is very rare.
